Happy New Year, dear readers!
We love the phrase “new year, new me” as much as the next beloved independent arts publication, but we also have to ask, “if it ain’t broke, why fix it?”
Every January, we like to cover one of the big theater festivals — if you’re looking for some fun reading, revisit last year’s coverage of Under the Radar — and this year is no exception! Over the course of the next month, we’ll be sending 3 brilliant writers (Kyle Turner, Ekemini Ekpo, and Sophia Carey) to a total of 10 shows from the Exponential Festival. This is pretty good coverage, if we say so ourselves, but it’s just a tiny piece of what Exponential has to offer; the festival boasts 112 performances of 24 shows at 9 Brooklyn venues over 36 days. Founded by the legendary Theresa Buchheister in 2016, the festival offers a home for experimental works by new, young theater artists. This year is particularly special as the festival is now under new leadership, with Nurit Chinn and Bailey Williams stepping in as co-directors.
While Kyle, Ekemini, and Sophia’s reviews will come out after many of the Exponential shows have already closed, we hope that they’ll offer a thoughtful, fun, and SMART retroactive look at the festival. We can’t wait to hear what they have to say, and moreover, we can’t wait to share it all with you!
Thank you, as always, for your support. And we can’t wait for another year of views.
Your pals,
